FIFA Under Fire

Fifa has strongly criticised what it calls a "concerted and ongoing effort" to undermine president Gianni Infantino, while Infantino himself denied that UEFA paid off an alleged lover during his time as general secretary. Norwegian federation president Lise Klaveness has called on Infantino to resign, saying there is "no trust" left, even as Mexico and Argentina expressed support. The Norwegian FA also publicly demanded Infantino step down after his failed plan to sell World Cup stakes. Infantino has now apologised for "errors" but retains FIFA backing. Meanwhile, UEFA’s boycott of FIFA tournaments still stands, with the FA also opposing Infantino’s re-election. Potential challengers for the FIFA presidency are reportedly circling after the botched plan, and Canadian PM Mark Carney said he lost confidence in Infantino. Players’ union FIFPro slams Infantino for "abuse of power".
