Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Geronimo Rulli from Marseille for £1.7m. The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who scored a penalty in Villarreal's 2021 Europa League final, has signed a two-year contract. Rulli previously played at Etihad Stadium in 2016-17 but did not make a first-team appearance. He has won eight caps for Argentina, including the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa America. Rulli replaces James Trafford, who joined Leeds for up to £45m, and will act as understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma. His European career includes Real Sociedad, Montpellier, and Ajax.

Rulli’s experience in high-pressure matches, such as denying David de Gea in a shootout, adds depth to City’s goalkeeping squad. His arrival aligns with the club’s strategy to strengthen backup options.

The deal marks a return to Etihad for Rulli, who is 34 but remains a key figure for Argentina. His contract duration and performance expectations will be critical in the upcoming season.
