UEFA's boycott of FIFA tournaments remains in effect, as FIFA president Gianni Infantino continues in his position despite controversy over a plan to sell stakes in a company managing the World Cup. The proposal was rejected by three continental confederations and led to UEFA threatening a boycott until it was scrapped.

FIFA's management board has publicly backed Infantino, though he has apologized for "mistakes" in the botched plan. UEFA, however, has reaffirmed its loss of confidence in his leadership, stating that assurances against future "attempts to disfigure the game" have not been met. The boycott's first test will be the Women's U20 World Cup next month, followed by the 2027 Women's World Cup qualifier play-offs in October.

Infantino faced calls to resign after the leak of proposals that bypassed consultation with national associations. Despite the withdrawal of the plan and subsequent apologies, UEFA insists its position holds. The governing body has promised a review into the fiasco, with findings to be presented to the FIFA Council. Carlos Cordeiro, Infantino's personal senior advisor, quit his role, calling the plans a "bad deal."
