Uefa is preparing a criminal complaint in Switzerland against Fifa president Gianni Infantino over his failed plan to sell a 20% stake in Fifa’s commercial rights for $4bn, which Uefa called an 'absurdly low' $20bn valuation. The move follows Uefa’s efforts to recover documents from Joshua Kushner, his firm Thrive Capital, and Fifa’s Americas arm via US court filings. Thrive Eternal was set to be the lead investor in the proposed commercial entity.

Uefa alleges criminal mismanagement by Infantino and other Fifa officials. The dispute has split global football, with Uefa and allies in the Americas and Caribbean opposing the plan, while CAF, South American, and Middle Eastern associations supported Infantino. Saudi Arabia welcomed his commitment to drop the plan ahead of hosting the 2034 World Cup.

Uefa has allowed teams to play in the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland despite earlier boycott threats. Infantino acknowledged mishandling the proposal and promised a review as he seeks re-election in March, with no rival candidate yet declared.
