Leeds United has secured goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City on a five-year deal, reportedly worth an initial £40m plus add-ons. This transfer marks a club record for Leeds, surpassing their previous signing of Georginio Rutter for approximately £35.5m in January 2023.

Securing a new first-choice goalkeeper was a primary objective for Leeds this summer, especially following Karl Darlow's departure and an inconsistent debut season for Lucas Perri. With Perri and Alex Cairns currently the only senior goalkeepers on the roster, Trafford is expected to bring much-needed stability to the position.

Trafford's arrival pushes Leeds' summer spending beyond £70m. This move is anticipated to pave the way for Perri to potentially join Torino on loan with an option to buy. The 23-year-old England international was identified as Leeds' top goalkeeping target for the summer window.
