Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Japan defender Takehiro Tomiyasu after a successful trial. The 27-year-old, a free agent after a spell with Ajax, was part of Japan's World Cup squad. He becomes the second signing for new manager Pierre Sage after Oscar Mingueza. Tomiyasu, who can play at full-back or centre-back, made 84 appearances for Arsenal between 2021 and 2025.

Palace needed defensive cover after Maxence Lacroix joined Chelsea. Chairman Steve Parish said Tomiyasu has "experience at the highest level." Tomiyasu added: "This club is in a good moment." Sage succeeded Olivier Glasner, who led the Eagles to three trophies in two seasons.

Palace are also interested in Chelsea's Josh Acheampong and Brest's Raphael le Guen. With Europa League football, they must comply with Uefa's squad cost ratio, capping spending at 70% of revenue. They have not paid a fee yet but are moving for Zavier Gozo. There is also interest in Brennan Johnson.
