Diego Simeone insists Atlético Madrid's position on Julián Álvarez has not changed despite Barcelona's interest. The 26-year-old striker, who told ESPN during the World Cup that the 'best outcome' for him and Atlético would be a transfer, is due to return to training next week. Barcelona's president Joan Laporta confirmed the club has bid for the Argentina forward, but Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín stated the club plans to retain him.

Simeone said, 'The situation is very clear. The club took a decision which Miguel Ángel explained well.' Álvarez has given Atlético much over the past two years, and the club will help him continue improving. Barça's interest could accelerate with Ferran Torres, who has communicated his desire to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Atlético have reported Barça to FIFA and the RFEF for their pursuit of Álvarez, alleging they illegally approached the player without their permission.
