FIFA has apologized for "errors" made regarding Gianni Infantino's now-abandoned plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. The plan, which would have raised $4.2 billion by selling about 20% of FFE, was criticized by European leagues and figures like Luis Figo. FIFA stated it "will no longer tolerate any attacks on its integrity" and will protect its reputation.

Despite the show of support, pressure remains. The association of European soccer leagues called for governance reform, describing the FFE proposal as "dangerous." Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also expressed a lack of confidence in Infantino, calling the handling of the plan a "fatal" governance failure. Questions about Infantino's presidency persist ahead of upcoming elections.
