In 2025, Hull KR became just the fifth team to win the Super League Grand Final in 30 years of the competition, guided by Willie Peters. They claimed the Betfred Super League, League Leaders' Shield, Challenge Cup, and a World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos.

It was announced during the season that 2026 would mark Peters' final season before taking charge of the NRL's newest franchise, the PNG Chiefs. Hull KR went out in the eliminators to Warrington Wolves after finishing sixth in the table, denying Peters a fairytale ending to his four years in charge.

Peters called it "the best four years of his life" and told Sky Sports: "Discipline has cost us a lot this year, and unfortunately tonight, but I can't fault them. I am really proud of them. They kept fighting to the end."

Peta Hiku was sent off during the defeat. Peters defended him: "Peta has been great for us for three years. What he did was probably the wrong thing, but he's been outstanding for me."

Peters added: "My family and I have had an absolute ball. We'll never forget our time at Hull KR. I do feel loved, absolutely. Love's important."
