Hull KR coach Willie Peters has expressed interest in becoming the next England Rugby League coach. Following Shaun Wane's departure after the 2025 Ashes series, the position is now vacant. Peters, who led Hull KR to a historic treble last season, is open to conversations about taking charge of the national team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

The Rugby Football League has decided the role will be part-time, allowing the coach to maintain club commitments. Peters, who was part of the Kangaroos backroom staff, believes England has the potential to succeed. The 2026 World Cup will be held in Australia, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea, providing a significant challenge.

Peters' ambition comes after a successful season with Hull KR. He sees potential for England to develop and grow the game. "I'm honest in terms of how I think we can all grow the game here and develop it and I don't think England are too far off," he stated.

Sky Sports will broadcast every 2026 Super League match. With the World Cup on the horizon, the RFL's decision to make the role part-time could attract several coaches. The competition for the England job is expected to be fierce, with several candidates likely to emerge.
