Dodgers' Big Bet

The Dodgers acquired two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal, and the move made them betting favorites on the World Series odds board. Skubal doesn't "sympathize" with critics, noting "Every team could trade for me." Red Sox Surge

The Red Sox acquired three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman from the Orioles, and Breslow backed the big trades for his surging club. Rutschman said he's trying to fit in with a Red Sox team that has been on a roll over the last month. Boston's streak hit eight games with a wild 12-11 win in 13 innings over the White Sox, as Caleb Durbin lined a game-winning single. Sonny Gray earned AL-best 14th win with three-hit ball and eight strikeouts over six innings in a 4-0 shutout. Garrett Crochet is open to a relief role if he can recover from injury in time for the stretch run.

Braves and Phillies

Ronald Acuña Jr. hit two home runs, including one assisted by Miami's defense, as the Braves swept Marlins 11-3 with Matt Olson adding a blast. Bryce Elder and Grant Holmes have shined post-deadline after the Braves faced criticism for not adding a top-line starter. Cristopher Sanchez became the first 15-game winner in the majors as the Phillies beat the Nationals 7-3. Bryce Harper will move to right field for the remainder of the season after the Phillies acquired three-time batting champion Luis Arraez.

Cubs Additions

Kevin Gausman is happy with the Cubs and is expected to make his debut Friday. The Cubs acquired Holmes and Taylor from the Mets for infielder Jefferson Rojas. Pete Crow-Armstrong is the NL MVP favorite after slugging two home runs in a win against the Dodgers, where Shohei Ohtani also went deep twice at Wrigley Field.

Injury Updates

Joe Ryan likely needs an IL stint after an MRI revealed a mild left glute strain for the struggling Twins ace. Triston Casas underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist, landing the Red Sox first baseman on the injured list. Hunter Greene was placed on the 15-day IL with right elbow soreness after only five starts since returning. Dalton Rushing has a slight UCL tear in his right elbow, follow-up testing revealed. Nick Pivetta exited his rehab outing with minor tightness in his right elbow. Trey Yesavage left his start early with left knee discomfort against the Astros. Jordan Walker was scratched from the lineup with right knee inflammation. James Wood was placed on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain. Nick Kurtz and Jeffrey Springs were placed on the IL with a strained thumb and hip discomfort respectively.

Roster Moves

The Pirates released Marcell Ozuna, who is hitting just .203 with eight home runs. The Guardians called up Angel Genao, their top prospect per ESPN rankings, who has a .309 average at Triple-A Columbus. George Lombard Jr. homered in his debut, becoming the third-youngest Yankee to homer in his first game on a night his brother also went deep. Cody Bradford will make his first Rangers start since the end of the 2024 season in his comeback from elbow surgery. The Brewers optioned Sproat to Triple-A after acquiring veteran starter Dustin May. The Mariners released Garver and Refsnyder among seven roster moves. Bobby Witt Jr. was activated from the IL after missing two weeks with back tightness. Mickey Moniak reached a two-year extension with the Rockies, hitting .277 with 18 home runs and 49 RBIs.

Gabe Speier was suspended three games and manager Dan Wilson one after Speier hit Gleyber Torres with a pitch in the eighth inning. Mike Krukow is retiring from the booth after a nearly four-decade run with the Giants. Freddy Peralta arranged a meeting between Mets stars Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor to work through their disconnected relationship. Mets rookie Jefry Yan had a viral celebration after his first MLB strikeout, jumping with his feet spread and slapping the grass. Ferran Torres will throw the first pitch at Yankee Stadium after his World Cup-winning heroics for Spain. Jacob de Grom wants to stay with the 55-57 Rangers, telling reporters at Globe Life Field that "I want to be here."
