Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene has been placed on the 15-day injured list for the second time this season due to right elbow soreness. Greene experienced discomfort during a Tuesday side session and underwent an MRI on Wednesday, with results pending. Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall stated there is no current timetable for Greene's return.

Greene began the season on the 60-day IL after offseason surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow. His current IL stint is retroactive to Sunday. He posted a 2-2 record with a 6.83 ERA in five starts following his July 4th season debut. This marks another setback for the 26-year-old, who signed a 6-year, $53 million contract extension in April 2023.

Greene has faced multiple IL stints in recent seasons, including issues with his groin, elbow, and hip. Despite trade interest, the Reds kept him, pairing him with Chase Burns in the rotation. Krall expressed his disappointment for Greene and the team's commitment to getting him back on track. The Reds recalled right-hander Luis Mey from Triple-A Louisville in a related move.
