The Boston Red Sox are reportedly acquiring three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman from the Baltimore Orioles, according to sources who spoke with ESPN's Jeff Passan. Rutschman, currently on the injured list with left wrist inflammation, earned his third All-Star selection this season. He is known for his elite defense and has shown signs of regaining his offensive form, with his expected xOBA at the All-Star break being the second-best of his career.

Rutschman became expendable for the Orioles following the signing of Samuel Basallo to a long-term deal. Rutschman, 28, is under team control through the 2027 season. Despite battling injuries this season, including left ankle inflammation, a concussion, and wrist inflammation, he has hit .251 with eight home runs and 47 RBIs when healthy. In five MLB seasons, all with Baltimore, he holds a career .254 average with 69 home runs and 277 RBIs.
