Washington Nationals All-Star outfielder James Wood has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain. The injury occurred during his at-bat Monday night against the Philadelphia Phillies. An MRI on Tuesday confirmed a mild strain, according to Nationals manager Blake Butera.

"Hopefully, this is a short-term thing for James," Butera stated. The 23-year-old Wood, who made his second All-Star team last month, is batting .265 with 30 homers and 73 RBIs. He had played in all 114 games for Washington before Tuesday.

Wood expressed his disappointment but confidence in the team's care. He felt discomfort on his final swing in the seventh inning Monday. While running and throwing felt fine, swinging proved uncomfortable. He plans to maintain his fitness and work out cautiously while sidelined. The Nationals, who had lost six straight entering Tuesday, were active at the trade deadline, trading away Luis Garcia Jr., Curtis Mead, and Foster Griffin.
