Kevin Gausman is set to make his Chicago Cubs debut on Friday against the Kansas City Royals. The veteran right-hander, acquired in a trade with Toronto on Sunday, expressed his long-standing connection to the Cubs, noting that his wife joked "it's about time" he joined the organization.

Gausman, 35, joins a fortified Cubs rotation that now includes Clay Holmes. Chicago also made other moves ahead of the trade deadline, adding reliever Ryan Zeferjahn and left-hander Braxton Garrett. Gausman brings a solid track record to the team, having pitched at least 174⅔ innings and made at least 31 starts in each of the previous five years.
