The Cleveland Guardians have promoted their top prospect, infielder Angel Genao, to the major league roster. Genao was called up before Wednesday's game against the New York Mets.

Genao, ranked as Cleveland's top prospect by ESPN, posted a .309 batting average with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs in 72 games for Triple-A Columbus. He also played at Double-A Akron earlier this season. Genao, who is primarily a shortstop but can also play second and third base, is expected to play third base and hit ninth in his major league debut.

The Guardians designated infielder Gabriel Arias for assignment. Genao becomes the 10th player to debut for the Guardians this season. Cleveland, currently at 57-57, holds a one-game lead for the final AL wild-card spot.
