Beyond the established stars who switched teams, top prospects traded could define these deals for years to come. Our analysts handed out deadline awards for the most fascinating elements of the flurry. Some front offices were clear winners and losers at the deadline, with the Dodgers shining while the Orioles and Brewers stumbled. For fantasy managers, late-season heroes in Atlanta and elsewhere could decide playoff runs.

Red Sox Roll

The Boston Red Sox extended their winning streak to eight games with a wild 12-11 win in 13 innings over the White Sox on Thursday. Caleb Durbin lined a single to center off Erick Fedde in the 13th to score Nick Sogard and cap the comeback. Sonny Gray earlier matched a career high with 14 wins, the most in the AL, in a 4-0 shutout Wednesday. The surging club made the biggest deadline splash by acquiring three-time All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman from Baltimore. Rutschman said he's just trying to fit in with a team that has been rolling for a month. Injured ace Garrett Crochet is open to a relief role if he recovers in time for the stretch run.

Dodgers-Cubs Showdown

Tarik Skubal made his Dodgers debut Thursday and didn't have his best stuff, landing only 51 strikes on 85 pitches in a loss to the Cubs. The two-time Cy Young winner doesn't sympathize with critics of the Dodgers' spending, noting "every team could trade for me." Pete Crow-Armstrong staked his MVP claim with two home runs in a win over the Dodgers as Shohei Ohtani also went deep twice. Kevin Gausman, acquired by the Cubs, said he's happy to be in Chicago ahead of his Friday debut. The Cubs also acquired Clay Holmes and Tyrone Taylor from the Mets for infielder Jefferson Rojas.

Injury Report

Minnesota ace Joe Ryan is expected to hit the injured list after an MRI revealed a mild left glute strain. Reds right-hander Hunter Greene, who has made only five starts since coming off the IL, returned to the 15-day IL with right elbow soreness. Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist, another setback landing him on the IL. Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing has a slight UCL tear in his right elbow per follow-up testing. Padres right-hander Nick Pivetta exited his rehab outing with minor right elbow tightness. Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage lasted just two innings before leaving with left knee discomfort. Nationals All-Star James Wood was placed on the 10-day IL with a left oblique strain. Cardinals All-Star Jordan Walker was scratched from the lineup with right knee inflammation. The Athletics placed Nick Kurtz and Jeffrey Springs on the IL with a thumb strain and hip discomfort respectively.

Ronald Acuña Jr. hit two home runs as the Braves swept the Marlins 11-3, with one aided by Miami's defensive miscue. The Braves' Bryce Elder and Grant Holmes have pitched like they didn't need a deadline addition after the club faced criticism for standing pat. Mariners reliever Gabe Speier was suspended three games and manager Dan Wilson one after Speier hit Gleyber Torres. Longtime Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow is retiring after this season following a nearly four-decade run in the booth. Mets rookie Jefry Yan went viral with his first-strikeout celebration. Former Mets pitcher Freddy Peralta arranged a meeting between Soto and Lindor in June to repair their relationship.

Roster Moves & Transactions

The Yankees entered the deadline with question marks and left without a splashy move. George Lombard Jr. became the third-youngest Yankee to homer in his debut on a night his brother also went deep professionally. The Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez became the first 15-game winner in MLB as Philadelphia beat Washington 7-3. The Royals activated Bobby Witt Jr. from the injured list after two weeks with back tightness. The Guardians called up top prospect Angel Genao and designated Gabriel Arias for assignment. The Pirates released struggling DH Marcell Ozuna, who hit just .203 with eight homers. The Mariners released Mitch Garver and Rob Refsnyder among seven roster moves. The Rockies and Mickey Moniak agreed to a two-year extension through 2028. The Brewers optioned Brandon Sproat to Triple-A after acquiring Dustin May. Cody Bradford will make his first Rangers start since 2024 Wednesday against the Giants. Jacob de Grom told the Rangers he wants to stay in Texas before the deadline. Spain World Cup hero Ferran Torres will throw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium.
