Hall of Fame Weekend

The Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrined its 2026 class on Saturday, with Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald and Luke Kuechly among the inductees. Kicker Adam Vinatieri drew laughs with jokes about Bill Belichick, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady during his enshrinement speech. New Hall of Famer Roger Craig revealed during his taped acceptance speech that he has been diagnosed with vascular dementia. The Cardinals announced they will retire Larry Fitzgerald's No. 11 jersey and induct him into the team’s ring of honor this season. In a separate feature, Bill Barnwell assessed Russell Wilson's Hall of Fame chances, noting that a rough end to his career has complicated his candidacy.

Injury Updates

The Bears expect receiver Luther Burden III to miss the preseason with a groin injury, but the team believes he’ll be ready for Week. Burden initially left practice early Saturday after tangling with a cornerback in what appeared to be a lower-body injury. The Commanders’ left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps in practice that will likely require surgery, causing him to miss at least a significant portion of the regular season. Saints guard Dillon Radunz is out for the season with a torn ACL. Lions starting center Cade Mays has a wrist injury that will cause him to miss a significant amount of time. Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers is day-to-day after suffering a left quad contusion during practice.

Contract Extensions

The Patriots and tight end Hunter Henry agreed to a two-year contract extension worth up to $20 million with $14.5 million guaranteed. The Titans signed guard Peter Skoronski to a four-year, $100 million extension, making him the highest-paid guard in the NFL. Quinnen Williams’ three-year, $105.9 million deal with the Jets has implications for the Cowboys, as Dallas appears to have rediscovered its old formula of locking in its stars.

Training Camp Buzz

The 49ers’ Kyle Shanahan intends to coach the team’s preseason opener as he closes in on full recovery from last month's car crash. The Eagles will continue to “lean into” the tush push under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart drew rave reviews at Giants camp after executing a slide following a third-down run, a decision that was notable after he was examined for a concussion five times last season. The Giants’ experiment in West Virginia under John Harbaugh seems like a success. The Bills have responded to fan complaints about sightlines from certain areas of the new Highmark Stadium.

Lions and Quarterbacks

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater said in an Instagram post that this time his retirement is “official,” stepping away from the Detroit Lions. Coach Dan Campbell is thrilled with the urgency and guidance that Jared Goff shows his Lions teammates. The Panthers signed Kyle Trask as a third quarterback after Haynes King’s hamstring injury. The Raiders held out Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby from practice for disciplinary reasons stemming from their fight on Friday. Patrick Mahomes says his rehabbed knee feels “great” during camp.

Personnel and Roster Moves

UCLA is adding former Raiders and Saints quarterback Derek Carr as a special adviser to coach Bob Chesney. The Saints have signed linebacker Deion Jones to a one-year deal, joining his fourth NFC South team. Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald confirmed Seattle’s interest in signing cornerback Terrion Arnold after meeting with the free agent. The Cardinals have no intention of trading edge rusher Josh Sweat, despite rumors. Multiple former NFL players are trying to recoup losses after the death of an alleged fraudster.

Defensive and Scheme Notes

The Cowboys’ revamped defense under new DC Christian Parker gets its first test in a joint practice with the Rams. The Eagles have bought into their new offensive system, starting from scratch on one side of the ball. The Rams are loaded this season, but as Bill Barnwell notes, superteams of the past 35 years haven’t always met expectations. True back-and-forths between Rams WRs and new cornerback McDuffie hint at a promising season ahead.
