Kyle Shanahan is nearing full strength after last month's car crash, planning to coach the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. Shanahan, who was hit on July 14, said he has been at or near full strength and intends to coach the game. He said he is 'pretty damn close' to 100% recovered.

Shanahan said the accident and concussion has helped him focus on the biggest parts of his job, including hours of film study, going over things with coaches and players, and being on practice periods. He has cut down on team meetings and media interactions.

The recovery hasn't been linear. Shanahan pointed to a team meeting a week ago as a turning point when he began to feel better. He said he is starting to realize that each concussion is different and that head injuries are scary.
