Assistant head coach Chris Foerster and offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak have assumed Shanahan's duties, with Kubiak working closest with Purdy. Purdy credited Kubiak's preseason play-calling experience for smoothing the transition, saying assistants have "done a good job of stepping up."

Shanahan attended portions of both practices—30 minutes Sunday and 47 minutes Monday—and is in a de facto concussion protocol. Players noted his presence motivates performance. News of the accident spread through team leaders including George Kittle and Fred Warner, with Purdy's first reaction being disbelief.

Purdy is taking ownership to maintain camp tempo until Shanahan returns. "When I'm out on the field, I just understand how it goes... getting guys in and out of the huddle and sort of pushing the tempo," Purdy said. "I feel like that's my job."
