Foerster, with Shanahan observing from the sidelines, led Sunday's first training camp practice. He received a playful challenge from general manager John Lynch regarding his ability to manage practice breakdowns, prompting Foerster to "get a little fired up" and emphasize his commitment to the team. While coordinators will also share duties, Foerster made an early decision to alter the typical team meeting structure, splitting players for offensive and defensive walkthroughs led by Klay Kubiak and Raheem Morris, respectively.

Players like left tackle Trent Williams and linebacker Fred Warner expressed confidence in Foerster, with Williams noting his long-standing relationship with the assistant coach. Shanahan, despite recovering from a concussion and black eyes, was present for about 30 minutes, observing team drills. Foerster emphasized his focus on supporting Shanahan and the team, viewing the expanded role as an opportunity to serve.
