Trade Deadline Moves and Roster Shuffles

The Seattle Mariners released veteran catcher Mitch Garver, and outfielder Rob Refsnyder, among seven roster moves. The Cubs acquired right-hander Clay Holmes and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the Mets for infielder Jefferson Rojas. The Brewers acquired right-hander Dustin May and left-hander JoJo Romero from the Cardinals. The Padres shored up their starting rotation by acquiring left-hander Robbie Ray from the Giants and right-hander Casey Mize from the Tigers. The Guardians completed a trade with the Nationals to acquire left-hander Foster Griffin. The San Francisco Giants traded veteran pitcher Tyler Mahle, to the Atlanta Braves. White Sox are acquiring right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo from the Mariners for Seranthony Dominguez, Nolan Jones, and prospect Boston Smith. The Braves acquired outfielder Lane Thomas and minor league left-hander Bailey Falter from the Royals. The Houston Astros acquired center fielder Daulton Varsho from the Blue Jays. The New York Yankees acquired veteran outfielder Heliot Ramos from the San Francisco Giants. The Blue Jays are acquiring right-hander Jose Soriano in a trade with the Angels. The Mets have offloaded a third relief pitcher, moving right-hander Luke Weaver to the Pirates in exchange for infield prospect Sammy Stafura. The Mariners are acquiring outfielder Taylor Ward in a trade with the Orioles. The Angels sent outfielder Jo Adell to the Guardians for catching prospect Jacob Cozart. Luis Garcia Jr., who is hitting .283 with 23 homers and 76 RBIs, has been traded from the Nationals to the Yankees in exchange for four right-handed pitchers. The Phillies have acquired three-time batting champion Luis Arraez from the Giants. The Phillies are acquiring left-hander Brooks Raley from the Mets for two minor leaguers. The Rays acquired Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Mets. White Sox are acquiring right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán from the Mets in exchange for minor league pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin. Seeking bullpen, the Pirates have acquired reliever Camilo Doval in a trade with the Yankees.

Pitching Notables and Injury Concerns

Left-hander Cody Bradford will make his first start for the Rangers since the end of the 2024 season Wednesday against the Giants. Two-time Cy Award winner Tarik Skubal didn't have his best stuff in his Los Angeles debut Tuesday, landing just 51 strikes on 85 pitches. Dodgers catcher Rushing has a slight tear in the UCL in his right elbow. Padres RHP Pivetta exited his first rehab outing Tuesday with minor tightness in his right elbow. Brewers ace Misiorowski dragged the Angel Stadium grounds crew through the dirt Sunday, calling the pitching mound "awful."

George Lombard Jr. is the third-youngest Yankee to homer in his first game. Yankees top prospect George Lombard Jr. will make his major league debut against the Cardinals on Tuesday. acquired catcher Adley Rutschman said he's just trying to fit in with a Red Sox team that has been on a roll. Cardinals All-Star right fielder Jordan Walker was scratched from the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Yankees because of right knee inflammation. The Royals activated All-Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. from the injured list Tuesday after he missed two weeks with back tightness. Left fielder Mickey Moniak, who is hitting .277 with 18 home runs and 49 RBIs this season, has reached a two-year extension with the Rockies. Two-time Cy Award winner Jacob de Grom told the Texas Rangers before Monday's trade deadline that he wanted to stay with the 55-57 team. Carlos Correa's recovery from surgery to repair a torn ankle tendon is progressing quicker than expected. Red Sox held out Willson Contreras from Saturday night's 3-2 win over the Dodgers as he underwent concussion testing.
