Tigers President Defends Tarik Skubal Trade

Detroit Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris defended the decision to trade generational ace Tarik Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Harris addressed criticism regarding the timing of the deal, rejecting the notion that the team should have waited until the deadline to maximize the return. He emphasized that the organizations involved had already presented their maximum offers.

In exchange for Skubal, the Tigers acquired several prospects, including outfield prospect Zyhir Hope, potential front-of-the-rotation starter River Ryan, and projectable starter Brady Smith. Harris took full responsibility for the team's position, noting that while he dislikes selling, it would have been irresponsible to pass up the available value given the player's market.

Despite the trade of Skubal and Casey Mize, Harris insisted the Tigers are not waiving the white flag. The team remains in contention for a playoff spot, sitting just 2.5 games out. Harris believes the high ceilings of the acquired prospects will provide significant long-term impact for the organization.
