The Atlanta Braves acquired veteran starter Tyler Mahle, 31, from the San Francisco Giants late Sunday, sending minor league pitcher Anthony Molina to San Francisco. Mahle, signed to a one-year, $10 million contract over the winter, struggled to replicate his 2025 form, posting a 5.13 ERA over 18 starts with a home run rate nearly triple last season's.

The move bolsters a Braves rotation ravaged by injuries to Spencer Strider, Spencer Schwellenbach and Reynaldo López. Despite the losses, Atlanta has held first place in the NL East since April 8 and owns an eight-game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Giants, en route to a fifth straight missed postseason at 47-65 under first-year manager Tony Vitello, are expected to move additional veterans before Monday's deadline, including All-Star Luis Arraez and 2021 AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray.

Molina, 24, brings a fastball sitting around 97 mph and experience as both starter and reliever. He debuted with the Colorado Rockies in 2024 and posted a 3.78 ERA in 17 Triple-A outings this season.
