The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired relief pitcher Luke Weaver from the New York Mets, a source told ESPN's Jorge Castillo. In exchange, the Mets will receive infield prospect Sammy Stafura. Weaver, a right-hander, has been a dominant force for the Mets, boasting a 1.84 ERA with 45 strikeouts over 44 innings. He has been particularly effective against right-handed hitters, who have struggled to a .099 batting average against him, and overall opponents are hitting just .162. Weaver has allowed only one earned run in his last 30 appearances. He is under contract for the 2027 season at a salary of $12.5 million.

This move marks the third relief pitcher the Mets have traded at the deadline. Earlier on Monday, they sent Brooks Raley to the Phillies and Huascar Brazoban to the White Sox.
