Trade Deadline Frenzy Heats Up

White Sox are acquiring right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo from the Mariners in a trade involving Seranthony Dominguez, Nolan Jones, and prospect Boston Smith. Baseball's two-time champion Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly added a two-time Cy Young winner, receiving an 'A' grade for the blockbuster deal. The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Lane Thomas and minor league left-hander Bailey Falter from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for two minor league pitchers. Seeking bullpen the Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired reliever Camilo Doval from the New York Yankees. The Minnesota Twins have acquired starting pitcher Dean Kremer in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles. The Guardians have acquired relief help and outfield depth from the Milwaukee Brewers, trading for right-handed pitcher Craig Yoho and switch-hitter Blake Perkins. The last-place New York Mets initiated their trade activity by dealing left-handed relief pitcher A.J. Minter to the Twins for prospects Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick. The American League-worst Los Angeles Angels traded reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe to the Texas Rangers for minor league third baseman Angel Arredondo.

Injury Report and Roster Moves

The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to a left forearm strain. The Mariners have also placed third baseman J.P. Crawford on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation. The Giants are suspending payment to injured outfielder Harrison Bader after he aggravated his injured left foot in a scooter crash last weekend. Houston starter Imai will pitch out of the bullpen for Houston's weekend series against the Texas Rangers after struggling in his last start. The Tigers called up prized outfield prospect Max Clark from the minor leagues and scratched Casey Mize from his scheduled start as they began their final series before the trade deadline. The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Gavin Hollowell on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation and recalled left-hander Antoine Kelly from Triple-A Iowa. Orioles first Ryan Mountcastle has suffered a torn oblique during his recovery from an earlier left foot fracture and might not return this season. The Orioles, riddled by injuries at the catcher position, acquired Jake Rogers from the Tigers in exchange for minor league right-hander Zane Barnhart. Twins outfielder Buxton has returned to the injured list because of a right hip impingement, the same injury that caused him to miss the All-Star Game. Phillies interim Don Mattingly stated that "now's the time that we're going to find out what we're made of" after the team has dropped nine of 12 games since the All-Star break. Yankees manager Boone is confident he'll get his injured stars back before the end of the season even while the front office tries to improve his team before Monday's trade deadline. Athletics first Nick Kurtz will undergo an MRI after leaving Wednesday night's game against the Red Sox because of a bruised forearm after being hit by a pitch. Royals first Vinnie Pasquantino, who is hitting .232 with 6 home runs, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sore right wrist.
