Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Shane McClanahan was removed from Thursday's game against the Texas Rangers in the fourth inning due to back tightness. McClanahan, who had not allowed a hit at the time of his departure, was replaced by Casey Legumina. The left-hander had thrown 49 pitches and was making his 20th start of the season. He entered the game with a 9-6 record and a 3.06 ERA.

McClanahan's return to the rotation this year followed a significant injury layoff. He underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2023, causing him to miss the entire 2024 season. Further complications arose in spring training of the 2025 campaign with nerve irritation in his left triceps, leading to additional surgery that August.
