The San Francisco Giants scratched their second baseman Luis Arraez from the Saturday night lineup minutes before the start of the game against the San Diego Padres. The move was made as a precaution after the leadoff batter left Friday’s game in the seventh inning with cramps.

Arraez, whose .328 batting average led the majors entering Saturday, is among the top trade candidates as the Monday deadline approaches. He’s in the midst of one of his best seasons, has posted an elite contact‑hitting line, and is a four‑time All‑Star who rarely strikes out.

The 29‑year‑old was traded from Miami to San Diego on May 4, 2024, and after winning his third straight batting title (.314) with three different teams, he left as a free agent after the 2025 season. He signed with the Giants on Feb. 10.

The Giants’ decision to remove Arraez from the lineup a few minutes before kickoff underscores the team’s focus on player health and game readiness, even as the trade market heats up.
