Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle has suffered a torn oblique during his recovery from a left foot fracture, potentially ending his 2026 season. Team president Mike Elias stated that Mountcastle's return could take "a couple of months," and while they hope to have him back this year, it's a "tough restart" for the 29-year-old.

Mountcastle has played in only eight games in 2026 for the Orioles, who are currently 53-56 and 2½ games out of the final AL wild-card spot. He sustained the new injury while preparing for a rehab game.

In contrast, closer Félix Bautista is nearing a return. The 31-year-old, who missed 2024 due to Tommy John surgery and underwent further procedures in 2025, is throwing live batting practices in Sarasota, Florida, and Elias described his progress as "really good."
