Injury Report

Bears safety Coby Bryant underwent knee surgery and is expected to miss four to six months, coach Ben Johnson announced Tuesday. Myles Garrett is dealing with knee swelling and did not participate in the Rams’ joint practice Tuesday against the Cowboys, while Puka Nacua left the workout early with minor groin soreness. The Ravens received encouraging news on starting CB Nate Wiggins, with coach Jesse Minter saying “I think there’s optimism” after Wiggins injured his leg in practice. Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan “could possibly” miss the start of the regular season due to a hamstring injury, according to coach Kellen Moore. Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce remains sidelined after offseason ankle surgery, with the team still not placing a firm timeline on his return. Eagles OLB Jonathan Greenard is expected to miss at least another couple of weeks as he recovers from a pectoral injury, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. Meanwhile, Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers was transported by ambulance to a hospital after collapsing during a joint practice Tuesday with the Buccaneers.

Training Camp Buzz

Lions quarterback Jared Goff is keeping the offense pulling in the same direction without distraction, earning praise from coach Dan Campbell for his urgency and guidance. Quarterback Scene

Packers QB Jordan Love is expected to play in Thursday’s first preseason game but said he will still play it safe after the thumb injury he sustained before last season. Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza, the No. 1 overall pick, “will get plenty of reps” in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Cardinals, coach Klint Kubiak said. Teddy Bridgewater announced his retirement from the NFL in an Instagram post Monday, saying “this time it’s official.” Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice called his 30-day jail sentence earlier this year a “learning experience and a reality check.”

Contract & Extension Talks

Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon focused on practice and declined to discuss his ongoing contract extension talks, but the three-time Pro Bowl selection explained his decision to practice without a new deal. Quinnen Williams’ three-year, $105.9 million extension with the Jets could signal a new strategy for the Cowboys, who appear to have rediscovered their old formula of locking in stars. The Seahawks have interest in signing free agent cornerback Terrion Arnold after meeting with him over the weekend, coach Mike Macdonald confirmed. Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori passed his physical and will come off the physically unable to perform list after missing time with an ankle injury.
