Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice says his 30-day jail sentence earlier this year was a "learning experience and a reality check." Rice was ordered to jail on May 19 after testing positive for THC while on probation for his role in a car crash two years ago. He served his time in a Dallas County jail and was allowed treatment at Parkland Hospital for his right knee.

"It was mentally tough," Rice said Tuesday in his first public comments since last season. "They gave me ways to communicate with my teammates still and as well as my athletic trainer." He underwent surgery to clean debris from his knee a week before entering jail.

Rice struggled last season after a six-game suspension, finishing with 571 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He averaged just 5.9 yards per target (ranking 45th), attributing his poor performance to knee inflammation. "I didn't know it was something that needed to have surgery," he said.

Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Rice is now fully participating in training camp. "I'm 100% locked in on what's going on now with the team," he said. "I'm ready to go out there and dominate."
