Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice was publicly released from Dallas County jail Tuesday after serving a 30‑day sentence for breaching probation tied to a Texas highway crash that injured several people. The 26‑year‑old was booked on May 19 for testing positive for THC, then sprinted past a handful of reporters and into a waiting SUV.

Rice missed every voluntary offseason workout and the mandatory minicamp that wrapped last week, still recovering from right‑knee surgery performed a week before his sentencing. A judge let him receive treatment at Parkland Hospital while incarcerated, and trainer Rick Burkholder has overseen his rehab. Coach Andy Reid said the staff is “on top of that” and expects Rice to report for camp in late July.

When healthy, Rice has been a reliable target, posting 156 catches for 1,797 yards and 14 touchdowns over three seasons and contributing to the Chiefs’ 2023 Super Bowl win. After a disappointing 6‑11 record last year, Kansas City Chiefs hope his return steadies an offense that struggled without him. Reid emphasized the need to get him “caught up” quickly this season.
