A scuffle between Kirk Cousins and Maxx Crosby late in Friday’s Raiders practice required teammates to separate them. Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Patrick Mahomes is unlikely to play in the preseason opener despite full camp participation. The Browns’ QB battle between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders has centered on pre-snap and post-snap techniques over seven practices. Rams coach Sean McVay said Aaron Donald “looked outstanding” in a workout but offered no update on a potential return from retirement. In Minnesota, the Vikings’ QB1 competition appears to favor Kyler Murray over J.J. McCarthy.

Contract Extensions

The Titans made left guard Peter Skoronski the highest-paid guard in NFL history with a four-year, $100 million extension. Buffalo locked up right guard O’Cyrus Torrence on a $78.4 million deal that guarantees $46 million. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor joined the wave of extensions with a two-year, $44 million pact.

Suspensions & Roster Moves

Colts cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt will serve a one-game suspension without pay in the season opener for violating the NFL’s conduct policy. Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner was suspended for six games. New Orleans also signed former Buccaneers linebacker Deion Jones to a one-year contract.

Seahawks linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence said he considered retiring after winning the Super Bowl but is eager for the challenge of a title defense. Texans receiver Tank Dell is confident and “going for it” in his return from an extended injury absence. Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving fired back at doubters as he enters Year, stating “I’ve been doubted my whole life.” Cardinals rookie quarterback Carson Beck completed 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and a touchdown (125.4 rating) in a 33-30 Hall of Fame Game loss, calling it a “good first steppingstone.” Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson said he “can’t wait” to face the Texans in Week, citing “lies” from his previous tenure in Houston.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell identified every active NFL player on a Hall of Fame trajectory, including 17 who could retire today and still gain entry.
