I just think you transition into different phases, especially as an athlete," Fitzgerald stated.

Fitzgerald, now 42, played his final game at 37. He expressed his aversion to the word "retired," preferring to acknowledge transitions rather than endings. "There's no retirement in sight," he said, "I protest the word more than the actual thing."

He also disclosed that he considered leaving the Cardinals during his career. While conversations about moving occurred, he never seriously pursued them. Fitzgerald expressed contentment with spending his entire career in Arizona, suggesting that joining an existing "super team" wouldn't have held the same significance for him.
