Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving has a message for doubters as he heads into Year 3: "I've been doubted my whole life." After a breakout rookie season with 5.4 yards per carry, Irving slumped to 3.4 yards per carry last year and missed seven games due to shoulder and foot issues. He underwent offseason shoulder surgery and is now a full participant in training camp.

New offensive coordinator Zac Robinson called Irving a "stud" and an "explosive play waiting to happen." The Bucs are shifting back to a wide zone run scheme that suits Irving's one-cut style, similar to his rookie year under Liam Coen. They also added Kenny Gainwell, who matches Irving's skill set, and the two could line up together in Pony packages.

Irving welcomed the addition, saying Gainwell brings leadership and knowledge. He also reflected on his time away from football, learning that he is "more than just a football player" and that adversity will make him stronger. Irving rushed for 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie, adding 392 receiving yards while helping the Bucs win the NFC South.
