The Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor have agreed to a two-year, $44 million extension with a maximum value of $47 million and $39 million guaranteed — the third-largest deal for a running back in NFL history. The deal, negotiated by agent Malki Kawa of First Round Management, keeps Taylor under contract through 2028.

The agreement comes two days after Atlanta's Bijan Robinson signed a record-breaking extension, signaling a shift in the running back market. Taylor, 27, led the NFL with 323 rushing attempts and 18 touchdowns last season while posting 1,585 yards and career highs of 46 receptions for 378 receiving yards. Only Derrick Henry has more carries over the past two seasons.

Taylor's new deal follows a 2023 hold-in that produced a three-year extension. He now ranks as the Colts' second-leading rusher with 7,598 yards, trailing only Hall of Famer Edgerrin James (9,226). The contract reflects a changing perception of the position, highlighted by Jeremiyah Love becoming the highest-drafted running back since Saquon Barkley in 2018.
