Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson expressed his anticipation for facing the Houston Texans in Week 1, one of his former teams. "I just can't wait to see 'em," Gardner-Johnson stated, referencing past events that led to his release from Houston. He alluded to a locker room incident last season involving cornerback Kamari Lassiter and All-Pro Derek Stingley Jr. following a loss to the Jaguars, which he felt was unfairly attributed to him.

Gardner-Johnson, now with the Bills after a stint with the Baltimore Ravens and a season with the Chicago Bears, criticized the Texans' handling of his departure. He stated, "Be adults about the business," and felt a "five-second phone call" was insufficient. He also praised the Bills' communication and the honesty of their athletic training staff, with whom he has "more trust" than at previous organizations.

Returning from a calf strain, Gardner-Johnson participated fully in practice and feels "100%." He is preparing for a challenging early schedule, facing two "good opponents" in the first two weeks, and aims to be "mentally sharp" to make plays. He is embracing a vocal leadership role with the Bills.
