Trade Deadline Frenzy Intensifies

The first-place Dodgers have finalized a significant trade to acquire two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Tigers, sending Zyhir Hope, River Ryan, and Brady Smith to Detroit. In another major move, the White Sox are acquiring right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo from the Mariners for Seranthony Dominguez, Nolan Jones, and prospect Boston Smith. The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Lane Thomas and minor league left-hander Bailey Falter from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for two minor league pitchers on Saturday. Minter to the Twins for prospects Bruin Agbayani and Billy Amick. The Angels, who entered Wednesday with an AL-worst 42-66 record, traded reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe to the Rangers for minor league 3B Angel Arredondo.

Injury Bug Continues to Bite

The Boston Red Sox held out Willson Contreras from Saturday night's 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers as he underwent concussion testing, but the All-Star is expected to be back in the lineup for Sunday. The Pirates placed Ryan O'Hearn on the 10-day injured list Saturday because of a strained left quad that is expected to cause him to miss six to eight weeks. Reynaldo Lopez a late scratch due to left knee inflammation on Saturday night against the Nationals and later was placed on the injured list. Giants second Luis Arraez was scratched from the lineup minutes before Saturday night's game against the Padres due to cramps. The Seattle Mariners placed outfielder Luke Raley on the 10-day injured list on Saturday due to a left forearm strain. The Mariners have placed third baseman J.P. Crawford on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation. The Cubs placed reliever Gavin Hollowell on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation and recalled left-hander Antoine Kelly from Triple-A Iowa. Orioles first Ryan Mountcastle has suffered a torn oblique during his recovery from an earlier left foot fracture and might not return this season. Rays starting Shane McClanahan is listed as day to day after leaving Thursday's victory against the Rangers in the fourth inning because of back tightness. Twins outfielder Buxton has returned to the injured list because of a right hip impingement, the same injury that caused him to miss the All-Star Game. Athletics first Nick Kurtz will undergo an MRI after leaving Wednesday night's game against the Red Sox because of a bruised forearm after being hit by a pitch. Royals first Vinnie Pasquantino, who is hitting .232 with 6 home runs, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a sore right wrist.

The Baltimore Orioles signed right-handed reliever Yennier Cano to a two-year contract extension for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, with a club option for 2029. Tarik Skubal what could be his final start for the Tigers, was given a standing ovation after his 1,000th career strikeout during Wednesday's game vs. the Orioles.
