McLaren is parking its H-wing rotating rear wing concept for the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid, with the system set to return at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku. The Woking-based team debuted the H-wing in practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix, tested it at Zandvoort, and ran it competitively for the first time at the Italian Grand Prix. The mechanism, which rotates 180 degrees between Corner Mode and Straight Mode, worked as intended to reduce drag on straights.

However, McLaren will keep the system on its low-drag wing rather than retrofitting it to higher downforce packages. For the high-downforce Madring circuit debut, the team will run the Zandvoort-spec rear wing with sculpted endplates. McLaren prioritized fast-tracking the H-wing for Monza, where drag reduction offers greater lap time gains, and decided against producing a Zandvoort wing version with the H-wing.

The team enters Madrid as a favorite after Lando Norris secured wins at Hungaroring and Zandvoort. The H-wing name references the H in the Etihad logo on the MCL40's rear wing centerline, following the 2010 F-duct tradition. Racing Bulls will also park its rotating rear wing for Madrid, planning to reintroduce it later this season.
