Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge played catch and ran in New York on Friday as he continues working toward a return from a broken right rib. Red Sox designated hitter Masataka Yoshida left Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with left hamstring tightness. Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list after colliding with New York rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr. during a 3-1 victory over the Yankees. Brewers right-hander Abner Uribe was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a forearm flexor strain. Pirates third baseman Nick Gonzalez suffered a facial contusion and is day-to-day after being struck on the helmet by a pitch in the fifth inning against the Red Sox. Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte will be day-to-day after leaving Arizona's 2-0 win against Atlanta with left knee soreness. Red Sox placed reliever Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right elbow inflammation and recalled right-hander Greg Weissert from Triple-A Worcester. Rangers pitcher Jacob de Grom left Thursday night's start against the Angels after two innings because of right triceps fatigue. Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman apparently avoided serious injury when he took a frightening tumble down the stairs and into the visitors dugout while trying to catch a foul popup. Rockies placed third baseman Kyle Karros on the seven-day concussion injured list on Wednesday. Athletics reliever Justin Sterner underwent right knee surgery in Los Angeles on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season.

Brewers traded for the Athletics' Jonathan Ornelas on Saturday in an effort to help their struggling infield. Blue Jays continued to add to their pitching staff, claiming veteran Paul Sewald after the right-hander was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks. Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams, an NL All-Star starter this season, is moving to second base in a move that manager Blake Butera described as "the best thing for our team " Mariners rookie shortstop Colt Emerson, who is hitting .190 with 23 RBIs in 69 games, will reportedly be optioned to Triple-A Tacoma before Friday's game vs. Houston.

Cleveland Guardians became the third American League franchise to reach 10,000 victories with a 6-1 win over the San Diego Padres at Progressive Field on Saturday. Cardinals rookie outfielder Joshua Baez set an MLB record with three home runs in the first three plate appearances of his major league career Saturday. Butch Huskey, who played seven major league seasons and was one of the last players to wear No. 42 before it was permanently retired, has died at age.

Cade Cavalli took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and the Nationals beat the Cubs 7-0 on Thursday to avoid a three-game sweep. Alex Bregman hit three homers in a game for the first time and drove in a career-high seven runs as the Cubs routed the Nationals 12-6 on Wednesday night. Kyle Schwarber smashed two homers into the corn to stretch his major-league-leading total to, and the Phillies won 7-1 over the Twins at the Field of Dreams movie site in Iowa. Jackson Kent had a mixed major league debut in a start against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night after his contract was selected from Triple-A Rochester.

Pitching Highlights

Jacob Misiorowski used an effective slider to get out of a bases-loaded jam and help stifle Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers in a Brewers win. Paul Skenes was lifted after just 65 pitches in Tuesday's loss to the Marlins amid another dip in his fastball velocity, leading to further speculation about his health status. Dave Roberts said he felt "pretty confident" about Shohei Ohtani returning to the mound this season after the two-way star threw a 35-pitch bullpen session. Edwin Diaz blew his third save in his past four chances Thursday night, but manager Dave Roberts said he'd stick with him as closer, lamenting that the team lacks better options.

All-Star & Event News

San Francisco will host the 2028 MLB All-Star Game at Oracle Park, which last hosted the Midsummer Classic in 2007. Twins activated outfielder Byron Buxton off the IL prior to Thursday's Field of Dreams game vs. the Phillies after missing 14 games with a right hip injury.
