Butch Huskey, a former Major League Baseball player who was among the last to wear the iconic No. 42, has died at the age of 54. The New York Mets confirmed his passing, stating that Huskey died from a blood clot in his lung.

Huskey played seven seasons in MLB, primarily with the Mets. He was drafted by New York in 1989 and played parts of five seasons with the team. In 1997, he achieved career highs, hitting 24 home runs and driving in 81 runs. He also played for the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins.

Major League Baseball retired No. 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson in 1997, but players wearing it at the time were allowed to continue. Huskey notably wore No. 42 for most of his career, with the exception of his rookie season and brief stints with the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies. He is remembered as the penultimate Met to wear the number, preceding Mo Vaughn.
