Seattle Mariners rookie shortstop Colt Emerson is being sent to Triple-A Tacoma, according to a report by the Seattle Times. Emerson, who signed an $95 million, eight-year contract before his MLB debut, is hitting .190 with eight homers and 23 RBIs in 69 games. His roster spot will be taken by utilityman Brock Rodden.

Emerson, who debuted in May as the youngest Mariners player since Félix Hernández in 2005, has struggled recently, hitting .182 with one homer in August. The Mariners, currently 57-65, are looking to rebound after a six-game losing streak. Last season, Seattle won the AL West and reached the AL Championship Series.
