Formula 1 stakeholders have agreed on the main elements of the 2030 engine regulations, opting against a naturally aspirated V8 in favor of a turbocharged 3.0-litre V8 architecture. The decision was driven by noise restrictions at street circuits like Melbourne, Miami, Madrid, Singapore, Baku, and Las Vegas, where a naturally aspirated engine would exceed permitted levels and jeopardize events. The new power unit will feature a simplified 100k W electric motor—down from the current 350k W—and aims to be 50kg lighter than today's units.

This approach maintains technological relevance to road cars while reducing complexity. A push-to-pass overtake mode, similar to IndyCar's system, is under consideration instead of reintroducing DRS. The regulations could debut as early as 2030, potentially bringing forward the end of the current technical cycle by one year.
