Vikings Tap Seahawks' Teasley as New GM to Navigate Salary Cap Crisis

The Minnesota Vikings have hired Nolan Teasley as their new general manager, completing a search that followed Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's January firing. Teasley joins from the Seattle Seahawks after 13 seasons, rising from intern to assistant GM in 2023. He beat out four other finalists, including interim GM Rob Brzezinski, who will return to his previous role as executive vice president of football operations.

Brzezinski guided the franchise through a challenging offseason focused on financial restructuring. The Vikings had spent roughly $100 million over the cap during the 2024 and 2025 offseasons combined under Adofo-Mensah's leadership. This spending spree followed multiple poor drafts and required significant roster moves to regain stability.

The new GM inherits a team that leaned heavily on coach Kevin O'Connell for personnel decisions in recent years. Teasley brings traditional scouting credentials that Adofo-Mensah, a data analyst, lacked. However, the Wilfs emphasized they weren't seeking a complete front office overhaul, viewing Teasley, O'Connell, and Brzezinski as complementary experts.

Most notably, Brzezinski negotiated a trade for quarterback Kyler Murray that costs Minnesota only $1.3 million while Arizona pays the bulk of his $36.7 million salary. These cost-cutting measures position the Vikings to spend approximately $100 million less in 2026 payroll than in 2025, providing Teasley with financial flexibility to rebuild the roster.
