FIFA President Gianni Infantino Faces Scrutiny

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has apologized for errors made regarding his abandoned plan to sell stakes in the World Cup. Senior staff at a summit in Morocco reaffirmed their support for Infantino. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated he no longer has confidence in Infantino due to the World Cup plan. FIFA has been accused of blackmailing Jordan for support of Infantino's presidency in exchange for World Cup funds. Infantino has called an executive meeting with senior leaders of the football governing body amid mounting criticism. He will also hold a crisis meeting with senior staff in Morocco. Portugal great Luís Figo has joined calls for Infantino to step down over the failed plan to sell the World Cup to private investors. The association of European soccer leagues has called for governance reform of FIFA, adding to pressure on Infantino. Infantino's plans to sell off the World Cup were described as ham-fisted and delusional from both a business and political perspective. Rivals are reportedly circling, looking to unseat Infantino as FIFA president following his World Cup plan.
