Teenager Erica Meg Parkinson has been named in England's preliminary squad for the Under-20 Women's World Cup in Poland. Manager Lydia Bedford has selected the 18-year-old North Carolina Courage midfielder as part of a 24-player group for a training camp in Portugal. The squad will face hosts Portugal in a friendly on Thursday, 13 August, serving as a final chance for players to impress before three are cut for the World Cup squad, due on Thursday, 20 August.

Parkinson has previously been part of Sarina Wiegman's senior England setup and has played for the under-23 team. She is joined by Arsenal's Sophie Harwood and Jessie Gale, and Eva Hendle, who recently joined Rangers on loan from Chelsea. This is England's fourth summer training camp, with previous results including wins against Canada and Colombia, a draw with the USA, and a loss to Japan.

England's U20 Women's World Cup campaign begins on Saturday, 5 September, against Canada. They are in a group with Brazil, Tanzania, and Canada. "We've had a really positive summer with some strong performances against top-quality opposition," said Bedford. "The players have embraced every challenge and I'm really pleased with the progress we've made."
