Newly promoted Ipswich Town have secured the signing of Portuguese defensive midfielder Florentino Luis from relegated Burnley for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old has penned a five-year contract at Portman Road, despite interest from fellow Premier League newcomers Hull City.

Florentino expressed his excitement about joining Ipswich, stating, "It feels brilliant to be a part of this club. I like how the club sees the future and there are a lot of good players here. I can bring experience and balance to the team, between defence and attack, and I like to bring the connection." Ipswich manager Gary O'Neil highlighted Florentino's experience in the Premier League and major European competitions, including the Champions League, as key assets that will strengthen the team's central midfield.

Florentino's move to Burnley was made permanent in June due to a reported £20.8m buy obligation from Benfica. He was a key player for Burnley last season, making 31 league appearances. He previously helped Benfica win the Primeira Liga in 2019 and 2023, and the Portuguese League Cup in 2025, and has represented Portugal at various youth levels.
