Ipswich Town has finalized the £20m signing of Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu from Leicester City, marking a significant step in their Premier League preparations. The 22-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract. Fatawu joins Ipswich after scoring 16 goals in 100 appearances for Leicester since his 2023 move from Sporting. His arrival potentially coincides with the departure of winger Jaden Philogene, who is drawing interest from European clubs such as Bologna, Roma, and Benfica.

Fatawu becomes Ipswich's fifth summer acquisition. This follows the club record £26m signing of striker Emersonn from Toulouse. Additionally, defender Cedric Kipre and forward Chuba Akpom have joined permanently after successful loan spells, and goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen was signed from FC Volendam.

"The ambition the club has is very exciting and I'm looking forward to being a part of that as we prepare for the Premier League season," Fatawu stated. "After speaking to the manager, I know what the expectation is and I'm looking forward to meeting my team-mates and starting work." He added, "I have played against Ipswich a few times during my time in England and I know how passionate the supporters are for the club, so I'm excited to play for them and show them what I can do."

Fatawu was part of the Leicester squad relegated from the Championship last season. Ipswich, who finished second in the Championship, will open their top-flight campaign against Sunderland on August 22nd.
