Many Netflix users struggle with muffled or quiet dialogue, often caused by a mismatch between the audio format Netflix sends and the speakers playing it. Netflix defaults to the highest-quality audio stream, such as 5.1 or Dolby Atmos, but many smart TVs only have basic stereo speakers. When the TV downmixes a surround track to two speakers, voices can sound distant or garbled. Other culprits include loose HDMI cables, outdated firmware, or misconfigured soundbars.

The simplest fix is changing the audio track in the Netflix player. Open the Audio and Subtitles menu and switch from the surround version (e.g., English [Original] 5.1) to the standard stereo version (English [Original]). This often resolves the issue immediately, and Netflix saves the preference for future viewing.

If using an external audio system, check HDMI cables and try bypassing the soundbar to isolate the problem. Ensure firmware is updated on your TV and streaming device. For the best audio bitrate (up to 640 kbps for 5.1, 768 kbps for Atmos), set Playback Settings to High in your Netflix Account page via a web browser.
