Stellantis NV said it will temporarily suspend operations at some plants in France next month amid a shortage of long-range electric-vehicle batteries and efforts to contain dealer inventories. The plant in Sochaux in eastern France, which produces Peugeot 3008 sport utility vehicles, will be closed from Oct. 23 to Oct. 30, while the factory in Rennes, which makes the Citroën C5 Aircross, will be shut between Oct. 22 and Oct. 30.

Demand for EVs with long-range batteries “remains strong, in particular from business customers, and is currently higher than available supply,” a media representative for Stellantis said. “In this context, we are temporarily adjusting our production schedule to remain aligned with market demand and to avoid building up stocks of vehicles that do not match customer needs.”

The group also plans to shutter the factory in Mulhouse for the final two weeks of October due to slower-than-expected demand for models such as the Peugeot 308. The plant in Poissy will be shuttered from Oct. 19 to Oct. 23. Stellantis shares traded in Milan slid 3.5% on Tuesday, bringing its year-to-date declines to 59%.
